Car Suspension Giving You A Bumpy Ride?

Did you know the suspension, brakes, and tires are often called the “safety triangle” of your vehicle? These three parts are critical to the driver’s safety, which is why you need to know the warning signs they might be failing. If you think your car suspension system is having problems, you can look for these critical warning signs. Continue reading to learn the 5 tell tale signs your car suspension needs addressing.

1. Your Vehicle Bounces or Pops Over Bumps

Your suspension system should always absorb shock to smoothen your ride. If your car excessively bounces after hitting a small bump, feels unstable, or sinks more than it should, your suspension is likely failing. To test your car, you can push down on the front or rear bumper. When you let go, your car should smoothly return to its normal height. If it bounces, pops, or stays low, there is a problem.

2. Your Tire Tread is Wearing Unevenly

If your tires are beginning to wear unevenly, it isn’t too late. This is usually a sign that your vehicle’s alignment is off or your suspension has a problem. Your tires should wear evenly before you have them rotated. It’s important to understand how tires wear, so you can recognize a problem early.

3. Your Car Pulls to One Side

An easy way to test your suspension is to feel if your car “pulls” to one side or the other when driving. This feeling is often described as “wobbly” or “loose.” When driving straight, your car should move in a straight line. Your suspension may be misaligned if you feel your car tugging you at an angle rather than smoothly driving straight. If you feel this when driving, your car may need suspension maintenance.

4. The Vehicle Leans When Parked

Your car should always be level when parked and stationary. If you notice your vehicle is leaning to one side, you need to take your car to a mechanic. When a vehicle leans toward one wheel when parked, there is almost certainly a failure in the suspension system. You should take a walk around your car to look at it from many angles if you have suspension symptoms.

5. Your Electric Vehicle Range is Decreasing

Is your electric or hybrid vehicle range decreasing? Many EVs use special suspension systems that generate electricity during braking to feed the battery. These systems make EVs and hybrids much more efficient. If your range is becoming less efficient, you may want to have your vehicle’s suspension looked at. This will require a special hybrid and electric vehicle specialist.

Have Your Car Suspension Looked at Today

If you recognize any of these problems, it’s important to take your car to a mechanic. The suspension is one of the major safety systems of your car, and it’s important to keep it in good health. Remember, it is always better to bring your car in while it’s still driving than to wait until it needs to be towed. Contact us if you have questions about your car suspension in Albuquerque, NM.
